Communicator
You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can't get them across, your ideas won't get anywhere.
- Lee Laccoca
Communicators express themselves with confidence in more than one language. They collaborate efficiently with attention to detail on the perspectives of other individuals.
I was an effective communicator by translating for two non-English speaking patients at Aurora West Allis and Sinai Medical Center. However, since I attended an Intro to Medical Terminology Class at MATC, I am aware that the government provides hospitals with funds to hire interpreters. However, the hospital did not have any available interpreters which led no choice but to serve as an interpreter. I was able to provide my service and help out non-English speaking individuals because in the medical field patients should be aware of their surroundings and the medication consumed. The picture of the pregnant young lady represents one of the patients I translated for at Aurora Sinai Medical Center. They called me a resource to translate because she wanted to be aware of the consequences she might have to go through in labor. The other picture represents West Allis Medical Center, where I translated for the Telemetry Floor for the non-English speaker.
As a communicator who expresses with confidence in more than one language, I am able to create connections with students at my current high school who speak the languages of either English or Spanish. I am also making a difference in my community by creating a safe environment where students are able to share their thoughts with no judgment being made.
