A risk-taker is a brave person that approaches unfamiliar situations that they are afraid of accomplishing but do it to explore and gain experience from the situation.

As a first generation student, I was lost in the topic of college. I was of afraid of applying to Marquette University because I thought that only high academic achievers could get accepted. I was wrong. With Sponsor-A-Scholar I was able to explore more in-depth what it takes to get the admissions counselors attention.  I took the risk of applying to Marquette, and I got in. In addition, I decided to tour and visit the university more often. This opportunity

However, I ended up touring the campus for quite a few times, and actually got to meet the school counselors, ZYleyka and Latrice. With this being said, I applied to Marquette and I got accepted. I also received an acceptance letter. I was then introduced to the Educational Opportunity Program of which is for first generation, low income students. I was afraid of trying this opportunity out, because I usually tend to get nervous but I went for it weather or not I got accepted. Later on, I found out I was accepted to the educational program at Marquette.

It has helped me in high school, because now I am not afraid of who I am. I can actually trust and feel safe in my environment. I can try out new things, such as even apply to an MATC college course as a Medical Interpreter which I was successful in. With being a risk taker I am able to explore new things as a high school student and even boost up my credits.

If you want it, go for it. Take a risk. Don't always play it safe or you'll die wondering.
